Harvest Season

Rtveli in Kakheti

Join a traditional wine harvest in Kakheti.

1 day · grape harvest, qvevri wine, churchkhela and the local table

About this experience

Rtveli is one of Georgia's most joyful and important traditions. In autumn, when grapes ripen, Kakheti's vineyards come alive with work, music, food, wine, and celebration.

On this experience you take part in the harvest, follow the path from grape to wine, press fruit, taste local wines, and make churchkhela — the beloved treat of harvest season.

This is not a standard tasting. It is a hands-on celebration of Georgian wine culture and hospitality.

Why go?

Rtveli is one of the best times of year to see wine country. You do not simply visit a winery — you become part of harvest day: baskets full of grapes, the rhythm of the vineyard, first juices, and the taste of Kakheti at source.

Day plan

  1. Arrival at the winery

Meet your host and learn what rtveli means in Georgian culture — not just work, but ritual and a celebration of abundance.

  2. Grape harvest in the vineyard

Walk between the rows, pick ripe clusters, and feel the rhythm of harvest season.

  3. Traditional pressing

Take part in pressing on a wooden press: the first stage on the path from fruit to wine.

  4. Winery tour

How Georgian wine is made, how the qvevri method differs from the European style, and why Kakheti remains the heart of the country's winemaking.

  5. Tasting with a sommelier and churchkhela workshop

Four Kakhetian wines (including Saperavi) with a board of local flavors, plus making churchkhela — grape must with walnuts and patience.

  6. First taste of the harvest

A symbolic finish to the day: fresh juice or young wine — depending on the stage of the season.
